Research is a fundamental part of the Romans: Age of Caesar experience: all skills, buildings, features and everything that a player can accomplish in Romans: Age of Caesar is tied in some way to research. Players obtain research points by ranking up and can spend them on researching new branches of the research tree. These open up new buildings, troop types, resources types, storage space, features etc. Research takes a certain length of time - increasing with each completed research. Certain researches require a player to be of a minimum rank before they can be started. A player can carry out one level of research at a time. Players may also receive free research points from Strategy Cards.

TIP: The number in the green circle lets you know how many researches are available under the branch.


Research Tree

The Research Tree in Romans is divided in to 8 Branches. Increasing the level of each research will increase the capacity or influence of the research being performed.


Resources

The Resources research tree increases specific resource's storage capacities.

Research Description
Wood Storage Increases the amount of wood which can be stored in the Forum.
Stone Storage Increases the amount of stone which can be stored in the Forum.
Clay Storage Increases the amount of clay which can be stored in the Forum.
Wool Storage Increases the amount of wool which can be stored in the Forum.
Iron Storage Increases the amount of iron which can be stored in the Forum.
Wheat Storage Increases the amount of wheat which can be stored in the Forum.
Lead Storage Increases the amount of lead which can be stored in the Forum.
Exotic Plants Storage Increases the amount of exotic plants which can be stored in the Forum.

Goods

The Goods research tree increases specific good's storage capacities.

Water Storage Increases the amount of water which can be stored in the Forum.
Fish Storage Increases the amount of fish which can be stored in the Forum.
Basic Furniture Increases the amount of basic furniture which can be stored in the Forum.
Pottery Storage Increases the amount of pottery which can be stored in the Forum.
Oil Storage Increases the amount of oil which can be stored in the Forum.
Vegetables Storage Increases the amount of vegetables which can be stored in the Forum.
Tunics Storage Increases the amount of tunics which can be stored in the Forum.
Meat Storage Increases the amount of meat which can be stored in the Forum.
Furs Storage Increases the amount of furs which can be stored in the Forum.
Bread Storage Increases the amount of breads which can be stored in the Forum
Utensils Storage Increases the amount of utensils which can be stored in the Forum.
Salt Storage Increases the amount of salt which can be stored in the Forum.
Wine Storage Increases the amount of wine which can be stored in the Forum.
Glassware Storage Increases the amount of glass which can be stored in the Forum.
Togas Storage Increases the amount of togas which can be stored in the Forum.

Services

The Services research tree gives access to new city buildings and allows improvements to limit number, range and amount supplied.

Taverna Range Increases the range of influence on happiness of the Taverna
Taverna Place Limit Increases the number of Tavernas that are available to be placed
Shrine Range Increases the range of effect of the Shrine
Healer Place Limit Increases the number of Healers available to place
Shrine Place Limit Increases the number of Shrines available to place
Shrine Amount Supplied Increases the number of religion points supplied by the Shrine
Healer Amount Supplied Increases amount of healing provided by the Healer
Post Office Place Limit Increases the number of Post Offices available to place
Healer Range Increases the range of effect of the healer
Washrooms Place Limit Increases the number of Wash Rooms available to place

Production

The Production research tree increases the number of buildings that can produce resources and goods.

Research Description
Water Production Increases the amount of Wells you can place in your town.
Wood Production Increases the amount of Timber Yards you can place in your town.
Fish Production Increases the amount of Fishmongers you can place in your town.
Basic Furniture Production Increases the amount of Furniture Workshops you can place in your town
Clay Production Increases the amount of Pottery Buildings you can place in your town.
Stone Production Increases the amount of Stone Quarrys you can place in your town.

The Army research tree increases will improve certain aspects of your Army. Increasing effectiveness of certain troops as well as command. Goods

Tactical Power Deploy Unlocks Power Deploy tactic at level 1, then increase power % at other levels
Legion Fort Points Increases the number of points available to build your fort
Troop Light Infantry Unlocks Light Infantry troop at level 1, then increase health % at other levels

Defence

The Defence research tree gives access to defensive structure for your Fort.

Research Description
Walls Unlocks the possibility to add Walls to your Legion Fort and increase its number placed at each level
Arrow Tower Unlocks the possibility to add Arrow Tower to your Legion Fort and increase its number placed at each level
Caltrops Unlocks the possibility to add Caltrops to your Legion Fort and increase its number placed at each level
Firepot Unlocks the possibility to add Firepot to your Legion Fort and increase its number placed at each level
Scorpion Unlocks the possibility to add Scorpion to your Legion Fort and increase its number placed at each level
'City Fort Points Increases the number of point available to place defences in your Legion Fort

City

The City research tree give access to town’s improvements such as trade, coin cap, more hovels, etc.

Research Description
Collectors Speed increases the speed of your Collectors
Imperial Points Cap increases the cap limit of your Imperial Points
Maximum Collectors per City increases the possible number of collectors available in your city
Maximum Houses increases the possible number of houses in your city
Collection CP Reduction reduces the cost of Command Points for harvesting other players’ goods.
Import Export Commission increases the commission perceived when importing or exporting goods
Coin Cap Increases the cap limit of Coins you can own
Fort Place Limit increases the number of Fort you can place in your city
Fort Blocking Radius increases the Fort radius for blocking enemies relocation
